ПРОБЛЕМА ДОБРОВІЛЬНОСТІ У КОМПЛЕКТУВАННІ РИМСЬКОГО ВІЙСЬКА (V–II ст. до н. е.)

Анотація. У статті аналізуються випадки набору добровольців до лав римського війська у республіканський період. Визначаються причини і мотиви залучення охочих до військової служби, що інколи зумовлювало відхід від традиційної практики рекрутування. Показано, що добровільність у римській військовій традиції була звичним, хоча й не постійним і винятковим явищем ще задовго до реформаторських ініціатив Гая Марія.
